What Happens Now That I’m a Black Belt?

Earning your Black Belt is a huge accomplishment — but it’s only the beginning! Getting your black belt and being a black belt are two different things. Now you’re on the path to becoming a true martial artist, leader, and lifelong student of the art.
You’ll work toward higher degrees (up to 9th Dan in our system!), take on leadership opportunities, and continue to build your skill, character, and knowledge.

Junior Black Belts are encouraged to join the SWAT Program, and teens/adults can level up through our CIT Program — both focused on leadership and instruction.

Junior Black Belts (up to age 12) may choose from Mondays at 6:30pm, Tuesdays at 5:45pm, Wednesdays at 6:30pm, or Thursdays at 5:45pm. Black Belts ages 13+, will switch into our Teens/Adult classes (offered Monday through Thursday at 7:15pm).

If you just earned your Black Belt, you are currently a 1st Dan Probationary Black Belt. For the next few advancements, you’ll begin working toward 1st Degree Decided Black Belt (solid black belt), followed by 1st Degree Senior (black belt with your name embroidered), then move through midterm training levels (MT1, MT2), all the way to 2nd Dan and beyond.

Each step requires growth in skill, attitude, leadership, and consistency on the mats. This journey is full of milestones — and we’ll guide you through every one.

Now that you’re a Black Belt, it’s time to upgrade! While not everything is required right away, there are a few important things to know:

✅ Personalized Black Belt Uniform Top ($180 to $185) & Black Pants ($34 to $38)
Black Belts may wear our exclusive personalized heavyweight uniform top with their name on it, along with black pants. This uniform is required before testing for 2nd Degree Black Belt, which takes place at least one year after you earn your black belt.

🛡️ Black Sparring Gear (Optional)
Black headgear, gloves, and foot pads are a Black Belt privilege — not a requirement, but many students choose to upgrade as a symbol of their new rank.

🛑 Can I Buy Gear Somewhere Else?
No — for safety and uniformity, all gear and uniforms must be purchased through our Allstar Pro Shop (via the app or in person). Only our gear meets the safety standards required by our insurance, and only our logoed uniforms represent the Allstar team on and off the mats.

⚠️ Note: Personalized uniforms are custom-made and cannot be returned, exchanged, or refunded — please double-check sizes before ordering!

Now more than ever, consistency is key! We recommend attending at least 2–3 classes per week to keep improving and progressing toward your next rank.
As a Black Belt, you set the tone for others in class — showing focus, effort, and leadership in every session.

Absolutely! Many Black Belts choose to give back by helping younger students.

Junior Black Belts can apply for the SWAT leadership team, while teens and adults can apply for the CIT (Certified Instructor Training) program. These programs teach leadership, communication, and how to assist or lead classes — valuable skills both on and off the mat.

Yes — we encourage it! You are actually required to attend at least one tournament per year as a black belt. There are advanced-level divisions specifically for Black Belts, where you can challenge yourself and showcase everything you’ve learned. You can also explore new competition areas like weapons, board breaking, and sparring at a higher level.

Think big — but stay focused. Some great next goals include:

  • Earning your 1st Degree Decided and continuing through the Dan ranks.
  • Joining a leadership program.
  • Competing in your first Black Belt tournament.
  • Earning a black stripe on your uniform (for excellence in character, skill, and leadership).
  • Helping others achieve their goals!
